Hey, there. I'm launching a campaign to stop  further lenghtening of copyright durations before 2019 rolls around and mega-corporations like Disney  start doing crap.

See, Copyright used to last 56 years at most with renewal, and  didn't used to be meant to do things like take down  your critics videos or ruining a kid's future for downloading some MP3s. It was understood that it should not last forever, because freedom of expression can't be a slave to an author's will and profit forever.

On this durations, Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman would already be public domain. Lord of The Rings would be public domain. We'd have public Domain videogames within my lifetime. Stuff from the 80s would be public Domain, even if not the most popular stuff.

Instead, Disney's Lobbyists managed to get the law changed to 95 years, without need of renewal, or even registering. As soon as you're done sketching  on that napkin, it's the American government's job to protect your napkin sketch for 95 years, unless you specifically relinquish that right to.

Nothing against Disney. I like Aladdin. But I'd like for copyright durations to be fair. This I started a petition. Not because I think it's within White House's power to change the law, but because it's within our responsibility to say this law is hurting culture, and  limiting creative expression far beyond what should be acceptable or necessary.
